TONIGHT
It's rare that you see the words "fashion" and "Nobel Peace Prize" in the same press release, but tonight womenswear designer Marcia Patmos of
Lutz & Patmos will reveal a new piece created in collaboration with Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu. A portion of the proceeds from sales will go to the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre and the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust. It's at a private home and runs from 3 to 9 PM; call 312-375-4754 to RSVP.

The Tribune reports that Joan Weinstein, the original owner of influential Oak Street designer boutique Ultimo, died on Sunday.
Weinstein was credited with bringing a new level of sophistication to Chicago shopping with her multi-designer shop. One of her former employees is Ikram Goldman, who went on to open her own boutique and considered Weinstein a mentor.

Whet e-mailed me with a fashion dilemma: "Now that it's getting cold, I'm looking for a hat that will keep me warm and not make me look like a doofus—something a bit more fashionable than a beanie, more elegant than a hunter/bomber hat."
