Fill a martini glass or coupe with ice and cold water to chill.

Build the drink in a mixing glass, starting off with an ounce of port.

Add an ounce of Rittenhouse Rye.

Then add half an ounce of Cointreau or a similar orange liqueur.

To that add half an ounce of dry vermouth.

And a quarter of an ounce of Fernet-Branca, an Italian amaro.

Add ice.

Stir thoroughly, until the ice visibly begins to dissolve.
