Destined to be remembered more as an Internet phenomenon than an actual film, this dumb-thrills item was revised by New Line Cinema after online movie geeks latched onto the premise and started kicking around their own ideas, including a jokey catchphrase for star Samuel L. Jackson (“I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!”). He plays an FBI agent escorting a government witness on a Hawaii-to-Los Angeles flight; the bad guys, apparently bored by the more reliable methods of assassination, have stashed 500 poisonous snakes in the cargo hold. The plot is ridiculous and the characters are cardboard, but none of that really matters once the snakes get into the cabin and start zapping people, the very definition of entertainment. David R. Ellis (Cellular) directed; with Julianna Margulies, Nathan Phillips, Sunny Mabrey, and Kenan Thompson. R, 105 min.

Sorry there are no showtimes for Snakes on a Plane on Sunday, November 22.
