Though con artists have refined their craft for the digital age, Eclectic Theatre's production of John Guare's classic 1990 play still feels perfectly relevant. Bear Bellinger could sell ice to Eskimos as Paul, a young black man who poses as Sidney Poitier's son to stay with a well-off white couple. As the mishaps that follow demonstrate, we're all separated by six degrees, for better or worse and regardless or social standing, race, or sexual orientation. Under David Belew's direction, the play succeeds in conveying moneyed New York society and its undercurrents of Salingerian alienation. Julie Partyka's well-crafted performance as Ouisa (Paul's mark) mixes hilarious snobbery with a thirst for intimacy that has eluded her relationships with her children. —Marissa Oberlander
