Remade from a 2004 Thai feature, this tepid thriller begins and ends in New York but unfolds primarily in Japan, where an American bride (Rachael Taylor) accompanies her globe-trotting photographer spouse (Joshua Jackson). Driving late one night on a country road the newlyweds hit a woman (Megumi Okina of
Ju-on), but afterward they can find no evidence of her. Only when the couple arrive in Tokyo do spectral traces of the victim appear in streaked photos snapped by the husband. The production design and cinematography are above average, but the cast doesn?t excite and the conventions of Asian ghost stories have grown tired. Masayuki Ochiai directed. In English and subtitled Japanese. PG-13, 85 min.
