Magic vies with technology in this exuberant adventure comedy, which unfolds achronologically in a series of zany, effects-laden vignettes. James Spader, sending up Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, is a wealthy entrepreneur whose Black Box computer gadget has swept the nation despite having too many applications to be user friendly. His star executives are a married couple (Jon Cryer and Leslie Mann) who spend so much time texting and E-mailing each other that they hardly talk anymore. Chaos erupts when their geeky son (Jimmy Bennett) finds a rainbow-hued wishing rock that’s even harder to manage than the Black Box. Robert Rodriguez (
Spy Kids) directed; with William H. Macy.
