Newly formed Fairlane Theater Company takes David Mamet's swift, decisive evisceration of male heterosexual douchebaggery and gives it a sluggish, indecisive staging. Mamet's 1974 script focuses on master douchebag Bernard, who sees all women as emasculating cock teases, and his apprentice Danny, a "nice guy" who viciously belittles his girlfriend the minute she expects an ounce of emotional availability from him. Director Aaron Henrickson separates the 36 short, biting scenes with momentum-killing blackouts and set changes. Meanwhile, his cast work overtime to make their characters likable, thus softening the script's sharp edges and rendering many scenes shapeless. They still manage to pull off much of the douchey comedy. —Justin Hayford
