Separation of State and Division

When: Saturdays. Continues through July 28 2012
Price: $13
Staged by Angie McMahon for the Second City's Directors Program, this sporadically satisfying revue looks at our polarized times. A prologue examines condescending assumptions about race and nationality (i.e., a white couple treating their new Latino neighbors as ethnic curiosities, even though the Latinos are U.S.-born). But then the show goes on to uncover the real national divide—the one between clueless, self-important assholes and their victims. Highlights include one running bit about competitive yuppie mommies hot after every celebrity parenting trend (bird feeding, anyone?) and another in which an overbearing furniture sales clerk's insinuations get a young couple fighting. As a high-spirited song reminds us, being a douche bag is the new normal. —Kerry Reid
