Dancer-choreographer-filmmaker Nadia Oussenko demonstrates a sound grasp of editing and mise-en-scene in this compilation of video shorts. For the propulsive Connect 4 she places her dancers in various industrial settings, then cuts on particular motions so that a step or movement that begins in one shot is completed or echoed in the next, against a different backdrop; the technique gives one the sense of a humming factory. The playful On Falling. . . . shows her slithering off a bus stop bench, draping herself over a rusting bridge, and spinning from an acrobat's harness. Most striking are two collaborations with other dancer-choreographers: Up There, featuring Denise Posnak's steamy solo in a retro bar, and Revised and Revisited, in which codirector Erica Mott becomes a storefront display, using props—chalk, cutouts, a suitcase, a turntable—to conjure memories of her immigrant ancestors.
