Just as elite soldiers are taught to assemble their weapons blindfolded, screenwriter Kurt Wimmer (Ultraviolet, Law Abiding Citizen) seems to have been given a bag full of stale thriller scenes—a foot chase in which the hero disables a series of surveillance cameras, a freeway chase in which she leaps from the roof of one moving truck to another, a countdown to nuclear annihilation on brightly colored computer screens—and jammed them together in the dark. This espionage adventure stars Angelina Jolie as a veteran CIA officer who's fingered by a Russian defector as a double agent and spends most of the movie on the run from former colleagues Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor. There's one nifty and original sequence—an assassination attempt during a state funeral where the pipe organs in the church all go haywire—but otherwise, this is crushingly generic.
