A Mexican feature, offering a fictionalized account of John Reed's coverage of, and eventual participation in, the Mexican revolution of 1913. With unusual sensitivity and depth, Paul Leduc examines the narrow gap between the man who merely observes and the man who acts, forgoing extraneous background detail for a close look at the transformation of Reed from “objective” reporter to committed revolutionary. (Reed would later put the Mexican experience to good use when he “covered” the Russian Revolution and wrote Ten Days That Shook the World.) An unusual example of rhetoric-free filmmaking.

Sorry there are no showtimes for Reed: Insurgent Mexico on Thursday, September 9.
