Raffi's is located in the dramatic space once occupied by the late, lamented Montparnasse: the boiler room of the former Kroehler Furniture factory. The new menu is pan-Mediterranean, offering French-, Italian- and Middle Eastern-inflected appetizers and entrees. While the food was acceptable and fairly priced, there were no standouts: Tabbouleh was straightforward but lacked subtle refinements of texture and flavor. Boureg (turnovers stuffed with crab and veggies with a mild mustard sauce) and grape leaves stuffed with currants and pine nuts in a yogurt sauce were similarly less exciting than I'd hoped. There's a broad selection of wines by the bottle at various prices points (including a couple of bargains). Service was cordial. The room is still a stunning space, if a bit empty the night we were there.
