This Mother’s Day it seemed like everyone with access to the Internet logged on to social media to share the mama love; Tim Curley of Chicago fourth-wave emo band Churchkey took to Facebook to post a link to their song “Finder’s Fee,” explaining, “This is about my amazing mom!” Its lyrics are about how a simple caring gesture can go a long way, and its supersize riffing gives the track enough momentum to skate through its occasional twists and turns without bogging down. “Finder’s Fee” appears on Churchkey’s debut, <i>The Great American Challenge (reissued on cassette by Philly label Sorry Girls after the band released it as a pay-what-you-want Bandcamp download in February), and though the EP doesn’t try to push emo forward, it’s a distinctive take on the genre’s 90s roots. Churchkey sound tighter and more skilled than many of the scene’s original bands, and their earnestness and enthusiasm are irresistible. —Leor Galil
