This tribute to Miguel Piñero—cofounder of Manhattan's Nuyorican Poets Cafe, godfather of hip-hop, sometime Sing Sing inmate, addict, Broadway toast, and cop-show fixture—is strangely boring. Played by former Law & Order detective Benjamin Bratt, Piñero compulsively makes a career of exposing the classist, racist hypocrisy he sees as a Puerto Rican in America and then in Puerto Rico. Overlapping the artist's biography and his work, writer-director Leon Ichaso pointedly reflects the chaos in his subject's shortish life, but he links the artist's frustrations and talent in the usual manner: as cause and effect. 103 min.
Sorry there are no upcoming showtimes for Piñero
