A nicely atmospheric Warner Brothers programmer (1944), with Michael Curtiz valiantly trying to guide Humphrey Bogart, Sydney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre back into the magic circle of Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon. The narration and multiple flashback structure of this Devil's Island escape story slow the pace down a bit, but the action picks up as the escapees join up with the Free French.
