Since 2010, the Waltzing Mechanics have been recording interviews with CTA passengers and assembling the transcripts into a series of breezy late-night shows called El Stories. For their first prime-time offering, company members interviewed families that were affected when some 1,300 bodies were exhumed from Bensenville's Saint Johannes Cemetery in 2011, to make way for a new runway at O'Hare airport. The resulting 90-minute show alternates between the dutiful (lamentations that deceased loved ones are no longer at rest) and the sobering (chronicles of government officials treating religious representatives like inconsequential nuisances). Director Thomas Murray weakens the show's impact by accompanying practically every monologue with a perfunctory reenactment and plunking three sleepy dead people centerstage, where they're almost always in the way. —Justin Hayford
