Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) gets her first leading role as a successful Los Angeles realtor who overshadows her blue-collar husband (Morris Chestnut) and continually postpones having children. Based on the novel by T.D. Jakes, this is a queasy mix of comedy, melodrama, and self-help spirituality; it's meant to be uplifting, but its profamily message is undercut by its virulently misogynistic treatment of the realtor and her mother (Jenifer Lewis), both too shrewish and controlling to be believed. Visually the movie is flat, except for some edgy gymnasium scenes, shot in desaturated color, that could double as Nike commercials. Bill Duke (Hoodlum, A Rage in Harlem) directed. PG-13, 99 min.
