This filthy Toledo-based speed-metal trio
is a relatively new band, but you can’t say they haven’t paid their dues—guitarist, singer, and human giant Todd Evans founded this band after six years as Beefcake the Mighty in Gwar. (Bassist Boe Skadeland and drummer Chad Smith have also been in numerous other vicious Ohio outfits.) On their two full-lengths, Black Swamp Rising
and Clear and Present Anger
, they tear through well-built, economical songs with ruthless efficiency and uncontainable fury. There’s wit, but no camp—just no-nonsense howling obliteration, displaying both classic metal influences and a willingness to push beyond established sound barriers. Hey, someone’s got to achieve light-speed sooner or later; why not these guys? —Monica Kendrick Awdacity, Armoured Assault, and Human Aftertaste open.
