Our Review

"If you want cold-weather comfort food, very authentically German, this is the place for you," says one Rater. The two main dining rooms (there's also a party room) are set up like an old-style German house, one decorated with murals, the other filled with Hummels. The food is traditional and heavy: appetizers include herring in wine sauce, hackepeter (the German steak tartare) on rye, bratwurst, and a Thuringer that can also be ordered with cheese sticks in a starter combo for two or four. It's also heavy (in a good way), especially the Pork Tenderloin Mirabell (pork on fresh spinach with ham and Swiss cheese, topped with a creamy mushroom sauce), sauerbraten, tasty spaetzle, and some of the city's best goulash. The menu's not vegetarian friendly, but one Rater reported that the kitchen made him a plate of vegetables and potatoes that "hit the spot." Naturally, a large selection of German beers and liqueurs is available.
