You may not be jonesing to spend 150 intermissionless minutes sitting on an uncushioned wooden pew in an unfinished, unheated basement, yet such woeful surroundings suit Philip Ridley's dystopian fantasy perfectly. In a futuristic London terrorized by machete-wielding mobs, a coterie of drug-addled castoffs stage a sadomasochistic ritual for the enjoyment of the one man who may help them survive the city's imminent destruction. It's all a bit much, but then so are Chad Duda's ferocious actors. They sprint recklessly through the mayhem while maintaining a perfect balance of black farce and Grand Guignol. Although Ridley's increasingly implausible script ultimately implodes, it's a gas watching this Ex-Pats Theatre Company production go down in flames. —Justin Hayford
