The corn grows pretty high in this heartland sports drama about Jim McCormick, who came from behind to win the American Power Boat Association's 1971 hydroplane regatta for his hometown of Madison, Indiana. The town was hard hit by the recession as well as the collapse of its port economy, and McCormick's boat, the Miss Madison, became the only community-owned craft ever to have won the cup. It's quite a story, but this 2001 drama by writer-director William Bindley tends toward the generic, and Jim Caviezel is hopelessly bland in the lead. Among the bright spots are Mary McCormack as the hero's wife and Bruce Dern as the wise old motorboat guru. PG, 94 min.
