In Shalaka Kulkarni's meditation on immigrants' expectations about their lives in America, angsty monologues punctuate unfocused solo dances. A male dancer performs a lethargic series of sun salutes and face palms while adjusting an imaginary backpack that represents "the immigrant's emotional baggage"; a female dancer morphs her hand into a gossiping puppet to insinuate ethnic discrimination. No matter how they move they look vaguely square, and their dancing conveys none of the distress in Kulkarni's monologues, which are all too caustic and aimless to be effective, anyway. The only expectation fulfilled in these 20 sluggish minutes is a blanket principle that applies to any fest: there will be duds. This is one of Rhinofest's. —Jena Cutie
