A psychobiography of Franz Liszt (played by Roger Daltrey), this is Ken Russell's most furiously convoluted film to date—a morass of misplaced energy. It's not a success, but on some level I enjoyed it: Russell's sheer crankiness is appealing in this era of too-neatly packaged entertainments. He alone dares to irritate. With Sara Kestelman, Ringo Starr, Rick Wakeman, and Oliver Reed (1975).
