90 minutes
With her saucer eyes, exquisite cheekbones, and tiny mouth, silent-screen idol Colleen Moore was like a live-action Betty Boop, and her light comic touch is the best thing about this World War I romance (1928). She plays an impish French girl who serves as mascot to a British aerial squadron; Gary Cooper costars as a flying ace who arrives at his new assignment, botches his landing, angrily boots the offending mechanic in the rear, and discovers that it's Moore in overalls. Comedy gives way to melodrama soon afterward, as the pair's budding romance is interrupted by an air campaign against the Germans. George Fitzmaurice directed.
