Jeepers Creepers (2001), in which a brother and sister speed down a rural highway pursued by a carnivorous batlike creature, distinguished itself from the horror-movie pack with its smart characters and its shocker ending, which was more like the punch line of a campfire ghost story than the usual sequel-friendly cop-out. This second installment, again written and directed by Victor Salva, opens with a hair-raising set piece in a cornfield and makes a game effort to establish its own narrative turf, as a high school basketball team, trapped in a broken-down school bus by the monster swooping around outside, thrashes through some George Romero-style survival politics. The tag here is more silly than haunting, but this is still a pretty wild ride, with a fine, knife-wielding score by Bennett Salvay. 106 min.
