Angry fish travels to the Bahamas for the Christmas holidays, plotting revenge against the family of a vacationing New England widow (Lorraine Gary). Noel, noel, a charming gift idea with suggestions of inverted seasonal myth—until director Joseph Sargent swamps it all in antimythical literalism and predictable lunchtime theater. Sargent's enough of an action vet (The Taking of Pelham One Two Three) to grind out a watchable sequel, but too much of a TV hack to turn the arbitrary dramatics (the family-in-danger nonsense, a mother-son attachment that would have made Freud cringe) into anything but synthetic pulp. A few nice travelogue touches (a paradisiacal recovery for the Caribbean after the tumbledown indignities of Water, Hot Pursuit, and Club Paradise), and an anomalous romance (between Gary and Michael Caine's aging pilot) that suggests a late-80s change in movie demographics: this may be the first animal munchie ever designed for geriatric consumption. With Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, and Karen Young.
