Janice Dutts Goes to Life Camp

Factory Theater opens its 15th season with this comedy set in Chicago: a frumpy, friendless couch potato reluctantly takes on a life coach, which involves attending a camp with overzealous counselors. There's a message in here somewhere--as in an episode of Growing Pains--but it's as unconvincing as Dutts's progress. Playwright Laura McKenzie boldly gives herself the least interesting role, the lead, and wears a semipermanent worried/shocked expression that could be read from across the street. But most of the other characters are well written, especially the coach and the three horny, nerdy counselors, and the actors playing them save the show with their daffy personalities and fantastic comic timing. --Ryan Hubbard a Through 4/14: Fri-Sat 8 PM, Sun 7 PM, Prop Thtr, 3502 N. Elston, 866-811-4111, $20.
