This year Victory Gardens' biennial Ignition Festival of New Plays moved away from its historical focus on work by people of color, opening the door to all comers. After receiving more than 1,000 submissions, literary manager Isaac Gomez and theater staff have whittled the roster down to seven works by a group of playwrights more diverse than ever. At the festival, which opens Thursday, each new play will receive a staged reading directed by local artist. The fest kicks off with back-to-back performance pieces. Where Did We Sit on the Bus?
