This documentary considers the recent Chinese phenomenon of "citizen reporters," people who start personal blogs to disseminate news stories the national media has suppressed. Director Stephen Maing profiles two such men: Zhang Shihe, a 50-something bachelor living in Mongolia, looks at reporting as a form of activism and uses his blog to raise money for dispossessed farmers, whereas Zhou Shuguang, a 26-year-old from a Beijing suburb, speaks of it as an adventure and a form of entertainment (truly Web-savvy, he's also a tireless self-promoter). Maing suggests that the contrasts between these two illustrate a fundamental rift in Chinese society, dividing those with first-hand experience of Maoist rule from those who came of age under China's transformation into a capitalist superpower. In Mandarin with subtitles.
