Old hippie/boho oasis serving vegetarian and macrobiotic entrees along with a mean buffalo burger.

Our Review

Now in a partnership with Michigan-based Earth First Farms, the Heartland has spiffed up its quarters and condensed its menu, which remains full of vegetarian options—including the macrobiotic plate—in addition to burgers (buffalo, turkey, vegan black bean), chili, and Tex-Mex-style entrees. Fine dining it's still not, but it is a north-side sanctuary for hungry bohemians of all stripes, with live music and a Wednesday-night open mike.
