John Wayne, Elsa Martinelli, Bruce Cabot, and Red Buttons have one hell of a good time (and a few tense moments) on the African plains capturing animals for American zoos. This late masterpiece (1962) by Howard Hawks transcends every literary value in the book to become a brilliantly entertaining and insightful work of pure cinema. All this, and John Wayne's rendition of “Whiskey, Leave Me Alone,” too. 159 min.

Sorry there are no showtimes for Hatari! on Tuesday, February 9.
