Nerdsploitation auteur Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite Nacho Libre) takes a witless whack at sci-fi fanboys. Affectless Benjamin (Michael Angarano), dispatched by his chirpy, adoring mom (Jennifer Coolidge) to a creative writing workshop for mouth-breathers, sells the film rights to his terrible novella—"Yeast Lords"—to a pair of no-budget filmmakers (Halley Feiffer and Hector Jiminez), unaware that his manuscript has also been plagiarized by workshop leader Donald Chevalier (Jermaine Clement). Sam Rockwell plays alternate versions of the novella's protagonist, one hairy and macho (as imagined by Benjamin), the other flamboyantly gay (as imagined by Chevalier). By Cliff Doerksen
