Global warming is real, but it's a lot more real for the young, which has led to the inverted paradigm of children trying to get their elders to be more responsible. Jenny Deller seizes on this notion in her debut feature, about a junior high science whiz in downstate Illinois (Perla Haney-Jardine) whose anger over the dire state of the planet is knit together with her resentment of her immature, neglectful single mother (Marin Ireland). When mom abandons her to become a "makeup artist to the stars" in Hollywood, the girl fends for herself in their mobile home, tending to a carbon sequestration experiment that she thinks might hold the key to the earth's future. Deller has trouble bringing the girl's personal story to a satisfying conclusion, but that isn't the story I was concerned about. With Amy Madigan and Lili Taylor.
