Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni star as a rich married couple who become stickup artists after their finances go bust. The long-forgotten 1977 original, with George Segal and Jane Fonda, was an odd duck, sporadically hilarious and bracingly conservative in its social satire; this remake, scripted in part by the brilliant Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), is just as bracing in its liberal rage, updating the story to the era of buccaneer CEOs and Enron-style pension meltdowns. It was the angriest comedy of 2005, though it's pretty well spoiled by Carrey, who insists on turning it into a star vehicle with his slapstick and spaz attacks. Dean Parisot directed; with Alec Baldwin, doing his superbly slimy corporate-high-roller routine. PG-13, 90 min.
