Tasteful, unremarkable art-house fare, rescued from complete irrelevance by Stephen Dillane's bottled-up performance as a writer scarred by the Holocaust. As a boy, the character escapes from Poland under the wing of a kindly Greek archaeologist (Rade Serbedzija), who raises him on the sun-splashed island of Zakynthos, then in Toronto. But his chronic nightmares and guilty brooding over his parents and sister, who perished in the death camps, eventually drive a wedge between him and his lively, clever wife (Rosamund Pike). Jeremy Podeswa, returning to feature filmmaking after a long stint in series television, adapted an acclaimed novel by Anne Michaels. R, 104 min.
