Many Holocaust documentaries emphasize the victimhood of the Jews, but this 2005 video by local artists Bob Hercules and Cheri Pugh is more psychologically complex and politically resonant. As prisoners of Auschwitz, Eva Mozes Kor and her twin sister, Miriam, were subjected to the sadistic genetic experiments of the infamous “Angel of Death” Josef Mengele. But later in life Kor's encounter with an exonerated SS doctor prompted her to heal her own inner pain by publicly forgiving Mengele and all Nazis for their actions. Vigorously shunning the label of victim, Kor now travels the world on a mission of reconciliation, though her charged meeting with Palestinians in the West Bank proves that making peace with the past is easier than finding it in the present. In English and subtitled German, Hebrew, and Arabic. 80 min.

Sorry there are no showtimes for Forgiving Dr. Mengele on Saturday, November 7.
