Jamie Travis, known for his melancholic short films about childhood and disillusionment, makes his feature directing debut with a mindless sex comedy about two 20-something New Yorkers (Ari Graynor and Lauren Miller) who start their own phone sex line to help pay their rent. The first half of the film plays like a send-up of the The Odd Couple as the women move in together—Miller is the uptight ice queen, Gaynor the boisterous floozy—but eventually it begins to resemble Bridesmaids and I Love You, Man in its intimate treatment of platonic companions. Unfortunately Travis lacks the comedic skill and humanistic insight to make this anything more than Judd Apatow lite. With Justin Long and cameos from Kevin Smith, Seth Rogen, and Ken Marino as patrons of the sex line.
