A washed-up painter accepts a job at a small-town Canadian art school and finds new inspiration when he takes in the title character, a mute, childlike man who can be manipulated to kill people in his sleep. This deliberately tasteless horror-comedy might appeal to gore hounds and fans of gross-out humor; but as with many films that strive for cult status, any potential exploitation-movie pleasures are overwhelmed by an air of smug self-awareness. Writer-director Boris Rodriguez brings a slick, arty style to the material, as if to let us know he's in on the joke; unfortunately he doesn't bring much in the way of subtext.
