With the help of a deformed "hunchfront" and despite the interruptions of Siamese twins joined at the bustle, a group of hypnotized somnambulists performs scenes from a dream journal purportedly purloined from Robert Louis Stevenson's notoriously bifurcated hero. The script's seven credited writers come up with some funny and affecting stuff, such as Dr. Jekyll's brotherly relationship with his all-id alter ego, Mr. Hyde, and a series of scenes imagining Jekyll with a girlfriend. But their self-conscious, talky contributions pale beside Bob Fisher's inventively grotesque staging. His production for the Mammals boasts gripping, ghoulish performances, unsettling live flute and violin music, and John Ross Wilson's fantastically lurid chamber-of-horrors set. --Zac Thompson
