Charles Busch (Psycho Beach Party) wrote this 2003 high-camp rehash of 60s psychological horror, strutting around in Joan Crawford drag as a washed-up pop singer. After the heroine poisons her husband, a Jewish movie producer specializing in ultraliberal epics (Philip Baker Hall, who's very funny), her grown kids (Stark Sands and Natasha Lyonne) plot to dose her with LSD so she'll confess. Like Psycho Beach Party, this originated as a late-night play, and the humor is correspondingly sophomoric, but I loved Dennis McCarthy's melodramatic score. Mark Rucker directed; with Frances Conroy, Nora Dunn, and Jason Priestley having fun as a bisexual gigolo working the family. 90 min.
