Wayne Kramer made his filmmaking debut with the entertaining Las Vegas fable The Cooler (2003) and followed it up with the execrable action flick Running Scared (2006). With this third feature he reaches back to a 1996 short and expands it into a busy, Crash-like complex of LA stories, each hammering home the injustice of our immigration law. Ray Liotta gives a supremely slimy performance as a U.S. immigration officer who uses his badge to score in the bedroom, and Harrison Ford redeems a sentimental story line about a weary veteran agent who unwittingly gets stuck with the little boy of a Mexican woman he's deported. A Korean teen falling in with gangbangers and a Bangladeshi girl persecuted for a school essay also populate the canvas, which has a paint-by-numbers quality. With Ashley Judd, Alice Braga, Cliff Curtis (Whale Rider), and Summer Bishil (Towelhead). R, 113 min.
