The third feature from local improv-film company Split Pillow has five “chapters,” each written and directed by a different filmmaker and following the struggles of Erin (Holly Montgomery Webb), a kleptomaniacal druggie just out of jail, and her hustler friend Luis (Luis Perez). Intended as an homage to Dogma 95, the movie is devoid of overlaid music or special effects and relies heavily on natural lighting and handheld camera; these strictures lead to a raw muscularity reminiscent of cinema verite. But it's hard to ignore the erratic tone and acting—Erin becomes increasingly unhinged less as a logical development of the narrative than as a result of the director having her jump through ever more hoops. 95 min.
