Colin Quinn

If YouTube had been around in the late 80s, Colin Quinn might have been a bigger star. His antics as cohost of MTV's Remote Control and his LL Cool J parody video, Going Back to Brooklyn, were ripe for repeat viewings. By the late 90s Quinn had found a wider audience as the anchor of SNL's "Weekend Update," but despite his broader success, the Brooklyn-born comedian remains a staple on the New York stand-up scene. A former bartender, he's still got a barkeep's gruff voice and acerbic attitude--he's quick with "look at this fuckin' guy" insults. "You ever been on a train," he asks, "and hip-hop high school gets on?" But it seems he's become less brash over the years. "You can always tell when someone's raised in New York," he says, mocking his own impulsiveness, "by how they take a compliment: 'Hey, nice haircut.' 'Screw you, what's wrong with it?'" a 5/31-6/3: Thu 7:30 PM, Fri 8 and 10:15 PM, Sat 7 and 9:15 PM, Sun 7 PM, the Improv, Woodfield Mall, Golf Rd. at Rte. 53, Schaumburg, 847-240-2001, $22-$24, two-drink min. --Ryan Hubbard
