Like the Wim Wenders quickie Land of Plenty (2004), this indie thriller revisits the paranoia that swept the nation immediately following the 9/11 attacks. It's a subject that guarantees a certain amount of liberal tongue clucking, though director Jeff Renfroe wisely concentrates on suspense instead of sermons. An unemployed accountant (Peter Krause of Six Feet Under) becomes irrationally convinced that a young neighbor in his courtyard building (Khaled Abol Naga) is plotting against America; echoes of Rear Window abound, but any audience sympathy for the self-appointed detective is thwarted by Krause's typically sulky performance. Intermittent relief arrives in the form of Richard Schiff (The West Wing) as a weary FBI agent trying to straighten Krause out. R, 98 min.
