Reminiscent of the TV series Northern Exposure, this 2001 indie comedy by writer-director Kate Montgomery smoothly transplants 30s-style screwball comedy to an Apache-run ski resort (actually Robert Redford's Sundance Institute in Utah). The attractive stiff of a manager (Tim Vahle, the movie's Achilles' heel) mistakes a visiting Mohawk woman (Mariana Tosca) for an important hotel critic, while she mistakes him for the man who's been sending her flirtatious letters. M. Emmet Walsh is saddled with a sappy dramatic subplot as the real critic, an alcoholic estranged from his daughter, but there are excellent comic turns from Sheila Tousey as the uptight assistant manager and Graham Greene as a vegetarian chef who tries to make his carnivorous patrons feel guilty (“He was my pet”). With Rita Coolidge. PG, 97 min.
