Special events at the 2011 Chicago International Film Festival 

Appearances, classes, discussions, and more

In addition to personal appearances at the screenings, some of which are noted in the individual capsules, the festival hosts various classes, discussions, and other events. Unless otherwise noted, all events are at River East 21, 322 E. Illinois, and regular ticket prices apply.

Veteran French director Claude Lelouche (Les Uns et les Autres) appears in person for the Chicago premieres of his new documentary From One Film to Another (Fri 10/7, 6 PM) and new drama What Love May Bring (Sat 10/8, 7:30 PM).

Director Pankaj Kapoor is the guest of honor for the Spotlight South Asia gala, which includes a screening of his feature Mausam (Seasons of Love). Tickets are $20. Fri 10/7, 6:30 PM; after-party at Privet Nightclub & Lounge, 937 N. Rush, 10 PM.

Director Simon Curtis and screenwriter Adrian Hodges are scheduled to attend the Festival Centerpiece screening of My Weekend with Marilyn, about the tempestuous relationship between Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) during the shooting of The Prince and the Showgirl (1957). Tickets are $16, $14 for members. Wed 10/12, 7 PM.

Oscar-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler (Bound for Glory, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) appears for a 90-minute discussion about his career. Thu 10/13, 7 PM.

Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Brother to Brother) will be honored as part of the festival's Black Perspectives program. Tickets are $15, $50 for a VIP package that includes an after-party. Chase Auditorium, 10 S. Dearborn, Sat 10/15, 7:30 PM; after-party at the Wit Hotel, 201 N. State, 9:30 PM.

David Robinson—director of the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in Italy and author of Chaplin: His Life and Times—presents a compilation drawn from past editions of the festival. Mon 10/17, 6 PM.

Chicago indie phenomenon Joe Swanberg (Kissing on the Mouth, Hannah Takes the Stairs) appears for a 90-minute discussion about do-it-yourself film production. Wed 10/19, 6 PM.
