The theme of this year's Chicago Humanities Festival is "Animal." "What makes us human?" is the question being grappled with in a variety of ways through November 10. Among the notable events: Jonathan Safran Foer on not eating animals, a program called "Bambi's Jewish Roots," and a conversation with David Axelrod. Tonight, Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) discusses his new book at 6 PM at Francis W. Parker School (2233 N. Clark, $20). Naturally we parlayed this year's theme into an opportunity to pose a really dumb question to the likes of Junot Diaz and Susan Orlean. Visit chicagohumanities.org for the rundown of the schedule.
