Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler, whose show is now in its second season on E!, brutally dismisses many of the mythologies of womanhood. At Zanies last May she sportively bickered with the vocal crowd. She kicked ass on the TV show Girls Behaving Badly and unapologetically discussed her sexual adventures in her 2005 memoir, My Horizontal Life. In her stand-up she often mocks insecure men (small penises are a favorite target), rejects the demands of motherhood, and celebrates drugs, chiefly alcohol. Wittier than Jenny McCarthy and less self-reverential than Sarah Silverman, Handler makes candid confessions that would be pointlessly distasteful if they weren't so wry. "Is it OK to drink while you're pregnant," she asks, "if you plan on giving up the baby for adoption?" a Wed-Thu 10/18-10/19, 7:30 PM, Zanies, 1548 N. Wells, 312-337-4027. Fri 10/20, 8 and 10 PM, Zanies, Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main, Saint Charles, 630-513-1761. Sat 10/21, 7 and 9:30 PM, Zanies, 230 Hawthorn Village Commons, Vernon Hills, 847-549-6030.
