Ryan Reynolds has the kind of bland good looks and ironic attitude that can be parlayed into movie stardom, though until now he's never struck me as much of an actor. He gets to show some range in this dark comedy, as an efficiency expert whose life is turned upside down when his wife (Emily Mortimer) secretly sets their clock back a few minutes. The ensuing disruptions to his routine set him in the path of a blond seductress and an expectant mother and cause friction with his spouse and his best friend (Stuart Townsend). The comic scenes can be arch or shrill, but director Marcos Siega (
Pretty Persuasion) does better when the story turns somber and the emotions feel genuine. PG-13, 86 min.
