Chicagoan Silvia Malagrino fled Buenos Aires two years after the 1976 military coup with her life in jeopardy. Her documentary reflects on the violence of the left and the right: we learn how the dictatorship, responsible for the murder of thousands, appropriated the tactics of some activists. Malagrino frames her story as a letter to an old friend, infusing memories of a lost world with nostalgia for their idealistic student days. While the Argentinean government's crimes are well-known, Malagrino's interviews with victims are still effective: “My life was fractured,” says a man whose mother was killed when he was a child.
